I Used To Real Stinky Smell Like My grandchildren — so I quit smoking

I couldn't believe it. My daughter and son-in-law invited my wife and I to join them for dinner at our favorite local Italian Restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday and the one-month anniversary of my quitting smoking. When they came into the restaurant where we were waiting for them, my two grandchildren ages seven and eleven, fresh from their Saturday afternoon soccer games, and still in their uniforms, ran over and gave me a kiss and my wife a bunch of yellow roses, I noticed immediately that they smelled real stinky and the roses smelled great. I was so happy because now that I have stopped smoking, I can smell things again and I smell good too. I feel so much better. It's like a miracle.

I want to let you in on the secret that made things start smelling good again for me.

I quit smoking. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't easy to quit at first. I was worried that after smoking for more than forty years, I wouldn't be able to do it, but I quit smoking and you can too. You are never too old to quit smoking.

I was amazed that I had the willpower and the strength to finally quit smoking. I don't know who was more surprised, my wife or me. I have to tell you that I am quite proud of myself, and you can be too because you can successfully fight your cravings to smoke.

If you are like me, you are a do it yourself type of person. I'm used to making my own decisions and quitting smoking was no exception, but this was a major change in lifestyle that I was contemplating and to tell the truth I was scared that I couldn't do it.

Wouldn't you like your clothes to stop smelling of cigarette smoke?

About a week after I quit smoking I took all the clothes in my closet to the cleaners. I couldn't stand the way they smelled. Can you imagine how my wife must have felt all those years when I was smoking and stinking up the place? But why worry about the past. This is a new beginning for my family and I and it can be a wonderful new beginning for you.

All you need is the faith in yourself that you can quit. Don't worry if you question whether you are strong enough to stop. You don't have to do this alone. You can have the comfort and support of quit smoking patches and quit smoking help lines to help make your transition to a smoke free success story possible if you are worried you can't do it on your own.

No more sneaking outside for a smoke at your children's house. No more blowing the smoke out the window at home so it doesn't go over to your wife's side of the sofa when you are watching TV. No more finding an excuse to get up from the dinner table early so that you can smoke. No more trying to hide your coughing or that you are short of breathe. You can break the habit that has been running and ruining your life for years. You can do it.

What I needed to get started was the security of knowing that I could quit smoking without experiencing terrible cravings or withdrawal symptoms. That's the security and peace of mind that a patch can provide you with. It can smooth your passage to being an ex-smoker. It can help make the transition easy. For some people, just knowing that the patch is there is enough to give them the courage to quit. That's what I did. I quit cold turkey, but I had the security of having a quit smoking patch available if I needed it. I also had a patch of faith. I never used the quit smoking patch, but I needed all the faith I could muster.

Do you remember how great you felt when you were young and didn't smoke? Wouldn't you like to feel that way again? When was the last time you could smell the roses? When was the last time food tasted really good to you?

Wouldn't you like your food to taste good again?

Wouldn't you like your grandchildren to stop bugging you to stop smoking? Wouldn't you like to be a hero in their eyes? Wouldn't you like to live long enough to enjoy your grandchildren? Don't you want to set a good example? Wouldn't you like to be able to smell and taste things again? I have to tell you that the spaghetti with meatballs I ordered at dinner with my grandchildren that night tasted terrific.

How Many times Have You Tried To Quit Before?

If you are like me, there have been times in your life when you really considered quitting smoking, but for one reason or another you didn't, or you started to quit and stopped. Maybe you were too stressed. Maybe you were under financial pressure. Maybe you were experiencing personal problems. Maybe you just didn't feel it was urgent to quit, but it is urgent because your health may be at stake. Maybe you didn't have a quit smoking patch available to give you the security to make your quitting easier.

In my case I made all kinds of excuses to myself like, I don't really smoke that much, I can quit anytime I want, and if I quit I will gain weight. I gained weight anyway because I didn't feel good about myself, but now that I have quit I am losing the extra weight -because I can breathe freer and exercise more. I always had a bunch of excuses ready to keep me from quitting, but there really is no excuse.

Whatever the reason, it is urgent to quit now because your health is at stake. It's urgent for the well being of your spouse and your family. Don't forget those stinky grandchildren. They have a right not to breathe in second hand smoke when you come to visit, don't they? I hope that the thought of their wellbeing will propel you to quit now.

It was really terrible. The cigarettes were controlling me.

I would have to have a cigarette as soon as I woke up in the morning. Before I went to bed I would count my cigarettes to be sure I had enough until I went out in the morning to get the newspapers. I would even go out to get cigarettes in a snowstorm if I ran out.

Let's face it, nicotine is an addiction, and it is clever enough to give your mind a bunch of excuses as to why you shouldn't quit smoking. Don't let those excuses lead to a lifetime of addiction.

In my case when the craving for nicotine started to take hold of me, I would tell my brain to shut up, that it wasn't going to get its fix today, but in a few days it would start to feel better. I'm afraid I even shouted this out loud a few times because the first few days were like a haze, but it was worth it.

Are you ready to start feeling good about yourself?

I have faith in you. Do you have enough faith in yourself to try? This is a call to action to take control of your life and stop smoking. You can do it. You can change your life. You can start to feel better. You can quit smoking now. Are you ready to start feeling good about yourself again? Are you ready to rediscover how good things can smell and taste? Are you ready to give your stinky grandchildren a hug?

When you quit smoking you can expect that within a short period of time you will:

∑ Breathe Easier

∑ Feel Better

∑ Stop Coughing

∑ Get Back Your Sense of Smell

∑ Be Able To Taste Food Again

∑ Have Your Clothes Smell Good

∑ Be Proud of Yourself

And most important, your circulation will start to improve immediately and your lungs begin to repair damage. You don't have to take my word for it, that's what the American Lung Association says.

Seize The Moment

I urge you to seize the moment. Stop feeding your mind a bunch of excuses. You can do it. Do it for yourself. Do it for your grandchildren. Do it for your whole family. Do it now. Quit smoking.

Aren't you tired of having cigarettes control your life? I was, that's why I finally decided to quit. It didn't hurt that I discovered that even people over fifty could add years to their lives by quitting. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it's your life.

∑ Did you know that within twenty minutes of quitting your heart rate calms down?

∑ Did you know that within eight hours of quitting there is more oxygen in your blood, mucus begins to clear out of you lungs and this makes breathing easier?

∑ Did you know that within forty-eight hours things smell and taste better?

It's up to you. It's your life.

When was the last time you could climb up four flights of stairs, or take a ten-block walk, or chase after your grandchildren without feeling out of breath?

In the final analysis it is what you want and what you desire that counts. If you truly want to quit smoking, I believe that you can. If you really want to make your family happy and give yourself the opportunity to live a longer healthier life, then quitting smoking now is the thing to do.

P.S. Don't forget those stinky grandchildren. They are counting on you being around for a long time to come so act now, and start to feel and look younger almost immediately.

Stop smoking time! Your big day arrived-try secrets of success

You've tried in the past and failed to quit smoking. Time to make you a permanent ex-smoker. Right?

Let's get started.

First off, note that whatever quit smoking method you choose it must cover the habitual, mental, emotional, behavioral, physical and chemical aspects. How much and what treatment to use will be determined by each individual's makeup. What works for one won't necessarily work for another.

I'm going to share with you what worked for me and turned me into an ex-smoker for 32 successful years.

My Secret #1: Be Certain You're Ready for Your Quit Smoking Time

From a mental standpoint: The very first thing you have to do to ensure you will succeed is to be absolutely certain you do want to quit smoking, that you are determined to quit smoking no matter how many times you tried in the past.

This is crucial to your success. You have to be truly ready to quit. No excuses. You've made the decision and you're sticking with it and you'll do whatever it takes. Your decision must have a firm basis, like wanting to stay healthy, or getting rid of the inconvenience of smoking, or to protect your family from second-hand smoke. Or maybe you just want to get fit so you can enjoy physical activity without gasping for breath.

Find a good reason to quit and implant it firmly in your mind. Get into the mindset that you want to and will quit. You cannot waver.

My Secret #2: Find Ways To Trick Your Mind

From an emotional standpoint: Figure out ways to trick yourself whenever you get the urge to light up.

When I quit smoking 30 years ago, I dreaded the finality of tossing out my last cigarettes. With each attempt to quit, I panicked knowing I didn't have any to fall back on should I weaken in my plan to quit smoking. Time after time, I'd say, "That's it. I quit" and immediately freak out because I didn't have any cigarettes in my possession. It was all I could think about.

"What if I get a craving and I don't have any cigarettes?"

"What if the craving hits me in the middle of the night when the stores are closed?"

This is where the agitation, irritability, tension and stress come from when we decide it's quit smoking time and throw away our cigarettes and try not to think about them. Of course we're going to think about them. They've meant too much to us for all those years.

Ultimately, that frenzied feeling exaggerated the comfort I felt when I did have them available. This just confirmed how important cigarettes were to me. It put doubts in my mind about why I was quitting in the first place. Suddenly, my original reason to quit was less important. This caused me to continue smoking for many years until I finally came up with a secret to trick my mind.

Every quit smoking tip I've read stresses throwing away your last cigarettes so you can't be tempted, but this doesn't work for all people.

The key for me was to keep the last 3-4 cigarettes on me at all times. I put them in my purse where I wouldn't see them every time I opened it. There was comfort in knowing they were there, but they weren't a constant temptation. Having them enabled me to turn my focus away from cigarettes. Not having them put me in a constant stress state.

This trick worked because I only needed to know that they were available. Then, I was free to choose to smoke or not to smoke. I knew that if the urge became too overwhelming, I had access to a cigarette to ease that stress. Without that stash, I had no 'choice'. Without it, I had to quit smoking.

Having a choice puts more control in your hands, so you feel less stressed. In turn, this eases some of those emotional upheavals we go through when we try to withdraw from an addictive substance.

My Secret #3: Find A Cigarette Substitute

From a habit standpoint: Habit causes you to continue smoking. It's become a huge part of your lifestyle and that makes it very difficult to quit smoking. Time to find another way to keep your hands busy.

I remember when they first came out with stop smoking aids. One was a type of cigarette holder that you picked up to replicate holding a cigarette. I don't know if they're still on the market, but this gives you the idea.

My 'secret' substitute was a bag of candies and a continuous supply of water. On my desk I kept a huge bag of sweets to pop into my mouth. Taking sips of water provided the hand-to-mouth action that had become such an ingrained habit. A pen would provide the same experience. I've always been a pen chewer, so don't be afraid to use this as a suitable and safe replacement. Make it a 'special' pen to give it more importance for you. Maybe it's design feels good in your hand, or perhaps it belonged to one of your children.

My Secret 4: Overcome the Need for Chemical Aids

From a chemical standpoint: There's a lot of hype these days about patches, pills and special diets to help you to quit smoking. Personally, I avoid any form of 'medication' unless it's absolutely crucial. I'm a firm believer that society has become far too dependent on medications for everything from quitting smoking to pain (even bearable pain) to dieting and tons of things beyond.

There are warnings on practically all such treatments that can actually cause more damage to your body.

One such warning states that pregnant women can damage and cause birth defects to the fetus if they use nicotine patches and pills. There are many more scary potential side effects from taking patches, pills, lozenges, gums, etc.

Some common reactions to chemical replacement therapy include having the jitters, irritability, nervousness, insomnia and panic attacks. Some people experience skin rashes and welts with patches.

There are some potentially dangerous side effects if you have heart, blood pressure or liver problems. Gum can be habit forming as well, which really doesn't resolve your problem much. Besides, the long term use can increase the risk of the formation of a carcinogenic chemical in your body. The artificial sweeteners used in gum, lozenges and tablets are known to cause neurological and other health problems.

And if that isn't enough to scare you, there are many troubling side effects, a major one being the tendency for seizures. (Approx. 1 in every 1,000 people have a seizure, which may involve convulsions and loss of consciousness.) As many as 3 in 1,000 people have a severe allergic reaction that requires medical attention.

Symptoms include mild to severe foggy thinking, headaches, nausea, insomnia (often serious), shakes, weight gain, sugar and carb cravings, sweating, constipation, personality disorders, suicidal tendencies (many thousands have been reported) and some deaths.

People report an inability to cope with a normal work day, and anything requiring study or taking exams is totally out of the question. If these stop smoking aids are mixed with alcohol, heart medications, caffeine, most drugs, or are taken by people who have any history of mental disorders, eating disorders, diabetes, and previous head or organ injury or disease, more risks are imminent. Of course, if children could be exposed to serious overdosing if they get their hands on them.

(*stats provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies and sources) So as I said, it's best to try to quit without these types of stop smoking aids.

My Secret Quit Smoking Time

To recap, these are the secrets used in my quit smoking time that enabled me to succeed:

Get into the mind set that quitting is the only choice - It's a matter of your health and your life expectancy!
Trick your mind by having a stash available, even though you are not planning to use it. This will provide comfort knowing you do have a choice - but you choose not to smoke - for now.
Play the delay game. Plan to start your quit smoking time when you go to bed and thereafter, you will already have gone 8 hours without a cigarette when you awake. Remind yourself of this. Question every desire to light up. Can you wait another 10 minutes? Half an hour? Remind yourself how long you've gone without a cigarette and feel proud of your accomplishment.
Get busy and you'll soon forget about the time. It only takes 7 days to quit - 14 days to break the habit and for the thought of having a cigarette to fade. Remind yourself of this fact.
Find a substitute for the habit. Change your routine so the ones that involve having a cigarette are removed. Avoid spicy foods that trigger the urge to smoke. Keep fresh cool water beside you at all times and keep sipping when the urge strikes.
Avoid chemical substitutes and herbal remedies. They can be just as dangerous as the cigarettes themselves and just as habit forming. Smoke is smoke! Seek out natural methods.
Here is one excellent quit smoking program that I highly recommend. Ex-smoker Rick Beneteau worked with a group of professionals to help him put together his program which includes a series of mind power audios. He educates you about your addiction, explains why you can't quit and how to overcome it, lists all the dangerous ingredients you're inhaling along with their dangers (cancer isn't the only thing you have to worry about), how you have been lied to about cigarettes, and what steps you need to take to quit smoking. Time to get started.

I'm going to start by making a statement that you may strongly disagree with. It's a risk - but your complete success with quitting smoking is important. So I feel forced to take the risk.

The statement is this: Hypnosis address's the very core of the greatest difficulty in stopping smoking - the mental and emotional attachment. It's not the nicotine addition or any of the chemicals in tobacco that ties us to the smoking habit so strongly as it is our mental and emotional attachment.

If the nicotine or other chemicals in tobacco were your biggest hurdle to quit smoking - there wouldn't be such a problem with people starting back smoking again months - and sometimes years - after quitting, after every spec of nicotine has left their body.

I hope this assertion hasn't pushed you away and that you're still with me. Because awarness of this puts "you" in control and increases your chances of success, to help you quit smoking permanently.

It's important to understand the reason for this conviction. You see I tried and failed to quit smoking at least a dozen times. And each time, I experienced all the demons that drag 50% of us who try to quit smoking, back into the pack. I couldn't enjoy a cup of coffee or a beer without a cigarette - so that kept dragging me backwards. I always felt agitated after a meal because I couldn't have my regular "after meal cigarette".

There were always craving thoughts in the back of my mind reminding me that I wanted a cigarette. Like when I had to concentrate on something. Or when I got angry about something. And after "quitting", getting angry became all too common! So I was very familiar with what they call "nicotine withdrawal" symptoms.

Now here's the point.

When I finally quit smoking, using a system I developed after years of studying self help, hypnosis, and psychology type books, my smoking habit dissolved away immediately. So much, that there was never any thought that entered my mind again to have a cigarette - like I had never smoked a cigarette before in my life. There were never any urges, or cravings, or emotional agitation, or replacing the habit with snacking or anything like that.

This is so important that I'm risking losing your open mind. But think about it - if someone who had it as bad as I did - trying and failing to quit smoking a dozen times or better - was still able to feel immediately like they'd never smoked a cigarette before in their life - that means the importance of nicotine withdrawal has little or no validity.

That means it's really the "habit mechanism" in the machine we call our mind's that truly binds us to the smoking habit.

If you think about it, it's actually liberating! It puts "you" in control! And if you're looking for an easy way to quit smoking all you have to do is learn how to take control.

Hundreds of books have been written dealing with controlling the "automatic" mechanisms in our minds. And how habits work for and against us.

But what does this have to do with hypnosis?

Like I said at the beginning of this article "hypnosis address's the very core of the greatest difficulty in stopping smoking - the mental and emotional attachment". Hypnosis works by bypassing your "critical thinking" and going directly to work on you habit mechanism.

The stronger your smoking habit the more difficult you'll find quitting cigarettes to be - unless you can manipulate that smoking habit mechanism. Which hypnosis is designed to do "directly".

That being said it's important to have a realistic expectation about what hypnosis can achieve. About how you can get the most out of hypnosis to help quit smoking.

Randy Gilchrist, Psy.D, who offers the "Non-Smokers Edge" for $149.00 on his website, refers to the Handbook of Hypnotic Suggestions and Metaphors, by Hammond, D.C. (1990) which states that multiple research studies indicate that one single hypnosis treatment to stop smoking resulted in approximately 25% success......opposed to about 66% of those who went through 4-5 sessions of hypnosis to help stop smoking.

Dr. Charles E. Henderson, Ph.D. has written several books on hypnotism, did his graduate work at University of New Mexico and got his MA and Ph.D. at the University of Denver. He doesn't offer a product online specifically to quit smoking he does have a new book that address' this important issue. He does have a page online "good things to know about hypnosis".

I bring him up at all, because I thought it important that he feels that "all hypnosis is self-hypnosis". Even, he says, if you're being hypnotized by someone else or by a pre-recorded tape to "talk you into a hypnotic state". Because he considers you're simply taking part in "other-directed self-hypnosis". Ponder on that for a moment. What do you think?

Dr. Henderson emphasizes that self-hypnosis is a skill, not unlike learning a musical instrument. And he says it does take some work but once you've developed the skills, not only does it 'not' feel like work but in fact it seems to "work like magic". He suggests that practicing self-hypnosis 20 minutes to an hour is probably an optimum time period of daily practice. He also notes that different people will of course respond differently. And since no one person is exactly like another this should be expected.

Important: He also says that suggestion's are the powerful force in hypnosis. Because they are what directs the subconscious to achieving your chosen goals. In this case quitting the smoking habit.

He goes on to say the suggestions have to be "specific" and "technically correct", "applied regularly" and "under the right conditions".

Without these 3 critical points addressed, he says self-hypnosis cannot be expected to achieve very spectacular results. Of course the flip side is that with these 3 critical points addressed you have the opportunity to achieve those spectacular results.

I can attest to the fact that when the suggestions are technically correct, applied with regularity and in the "right" conditions the results can be absolutely, overpoweringly, astounding. Life altering even.

My quit smoking breakthrough only had 4 suggestions. They weren't used in conjunction with trance practice, but they were specifically developed to quit smoking, and applied under very specific conditions. So that when I threw away my last cigarette I instantly felt like I had never smoked a single cigarette in my entire life.

That's the power of the right suggestions applied in just the right way.

On the other hand, using ineffecient, non-specific suggestions, even though used in trance practice, may not be the miracle quit smoking cure, as noted by in this testimonial on the Divinity Publishing website...

"the affirmations popped into my head at the appropriate moment and helped me get over the need for a cigarette. It wasn't all a bed of roses, it wasn't a miracle cure, as I had a tough time going through nicotine withdrawal on day 3...but..."

So unless you're lucky enough to get information with the "right suggestions" or should I say the "most efficient suggestions" you need to expect to have to deal with at least some of the nasty's of quitting smoking. At least with the standard self-hypnosis CD workbooks and suggestions.

The positive side is, as mentioned above, "about 66% of those going through 4-5 sessions of hypnosis (succeed at) stop(ing) smoking". Since that's the case you may want to look further into whether hypnosis - self or otherwise is a direction you want to take.

FINANCES: CREDIT CARDS AND LOANS

1. Create a budget and be realistic about all your incomings and outgoings. Make sure you know exactly what money you have and when you will have it. This will help you plan for events such as birthdays or holidays when you may need a little extra cash saved up.

2. Make sure you are getting the best possible interest rate for your savings, opening an online savings account could receive a higher interest rate than a regular current account.

3. Missing your credit card minimum payment dates will hit you with a big charge, so set up a direct debit payment to make sure you never miss the date by accident.

4. Lots of credit cards now offer cashback or points on your purchases or gift vouchers when you first sign up, so make sure you shop around before choosing your credit card. However don't just choose a card because of a one off benefit, you have to look at the overall package.

5. Don't be scared to transfer to another credit card with an interest free promotional period as lots of credit cards offer this now. However make sure you transfer to a different one before the promotional period is over as you could be charged with a higher interest rate once it has ended.

6. Keep your credit history healthy- this will make it easier to transfer to different credit cards when you need to.

7. Don't sign up to department store credit cards even if they do offer you 10% off your first purchase, they charge you a very high interest rate, high late payment charges and are too tempting to have in your wallet while you are out shopping!

8. Don't get yourself into a mess with paying your mortgage. If you are struggling to pay your monthly payments, speak to your provider about taking a mortgage payment holiday which is better than simply defaulting on your payments.

9. If you have a little extra money, pay more on your credit cards or loans instead of spending it on a treat. If you can pay your debts off quicker, you will pay less interest.

10. If you have been stung in the past by large bank charges, try to reclaim them by writing to your bank. If you think your bank charges are significantly higher than other banks, think about transferring your account.

11. If you travel a lot, use a credit card which doesn't charge you for using it abroad. Some credit cards charge 2.5% for using it in a foreign country, however there are some that do not charge this fee if you shop around.

12. If you are worried about your finances, get free help from your local Citizen's Advice Bureau, they understand what troubles you may be facing and are trained to help you think of solutions.

13. Make sure you are claiming any benefits that you are entitled to such as Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit. The forms can take a while to fill out and it can be confusing about what you are entitled for but you can go to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau to help with any queries.

SHOPPING

14. Do you shopping online, this will stop you having to pay for buses or parking and you are more likely to buy what you need when you are online.

15. Join Internet Cashback to earn cashback while you shop online and get access to discount codes which aren't available in the shops. Earn cashback on a variety of products including your food shopping, clothes shopping, credit cards, insurances etc. Download the Cashback Detector and you will never miss out on cashback while shopping online again!

16. Don't buy everything from the usual high street shops; use a price comparison website before you buy anything to make sure you are getting the best prices, which could point you to an online shop you have never heard of before with the cheapest products.

17. Try not to impulse shop! Don't buy something as soon as you see it; give yourself time to think about it so you can see if you really need it. This will also give you chance to shop around for the best price.

18. When buying your groceries try the supermarket's economy range. You'll find most of it tastes the same but is half the price, so don't be put off by the packaging. Supermarket economy ranges are also good for toiletries, medicines and cleaning products.

19. Have a spring clean and sell anything you don't want or use anymore on Ebay- it is really quick and easy to sell on Ebay now.

20. Do your grocery shopping at night if you can, as supermarkets such as ASDA or Tesco often reduce the price of food like bread, milk or cakes at the end of the day to make sure they sell it.

21. Before you go shopping, make a list of what you need and then stick to it, if you don't know what you need, you'll be more likely to overspend.

22. Don't buy your daily cup of coffee from expensive coffee shops because they are too expensive. A £2 cup of coffee every day will cost you approximately £60 over the whole month! Take a flask out instead!

23. Take a packed lunch to work instead of buying it everyday, it will work out much cheaper especially if you've managed to get your bread reduced for your sandwiches the night before.

24. Don't buy ready made meals; they're expensive and not very healthy. If you get yourself organised you can cook a meal from scratch in about 20 minutes. It's healthier and much cheaper.

25. Only buy what you need to eat, buying too much food means it'll go out of date fast and you lose money on it.

26. Use the leftovers from your evening meals for your lunch the next day, as long as you keep in the fridge it will still stay nice and means you won't need to buy your dinner out.

27. Always look out for special offers, coupons and discounts. Bulk buy if there is a special offer on something you regularly use, for example a BOGOF on toothpaste however don't just buy something because it is reduced!

28. Don't feel you have to be the first person to get the latest products, for example a mobile phone could cost £300 when first launched but could drop to only £50 in the next year.

29. Plan your family and friend's birthday and Christmas presents in advance by buying them during the sales. If you have enough storage, you could buy your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT AND LEISURE

30. Stop eating out at restaurants at evenings and weekends so often. It's easy to get lazy and head out for dinner but you've got to remember that your meal will cost a lot more in a restaurant than it will cooking for yourself.

31. If you do eat out at a restaurant, try to skip the starter and only have two courses which will save you money without ruining your evening. Also, try to resist the coffee at the end of the meal, you can get one at home for much less.

32. Find a restaurant where you can take your own bottle of wine! These are quite common and will mean you are not paying restaurant prices for your drinks.

33. Take it in turns for you and your friends to throw a dinner party. This is much cheaper than going to a restaurant and is often more fun especially if you have themed evenings.

34. If you are going out for the evening, don't go too early and have a few drinks before you leave. You will spend much less money but will still have fun!

35. If you have an expensive gym membership and do not use it then cancel it as it is a complete waste of money. Try walking instead or using your local leisure centre which will be much cheaper than a gym membership.

36. If you pay to go to a slimming club, consider starting your own with your family, friends and neighbours instead. You will still get the same motivation but will save on the weekly cost.

37. Don't pay full price for cinema tickets as most cinemas offer cheap weekend or daytime prices, and if you know someone with an Orange mobile phone you can get 2-for-1 tickets on Wednesday's with their Orange Wednesday promotion.

38. During summer holidays most council's have free or cheap events for families and children to take part in, so make sure you hunt around to make the most of what is offered.

39. Libraries are a great place to take the children on a rainy day and are great for adults too as many now stock not only books but CDs , DVDs and magazines.

40. Share the cost of events with your family and friends, for example if you love football then buy a season ticket with your friends and take it in turns to go to the matches. This way you might miss out on some matches but that's better than missing out on all of them.

41. Try and find a market research group in your area which will pay you very well for telling researches what you think of specific products or ideas. These are enjoyable to do and you are provided with refreshments while you are there.

FASHION

42. Aim to build your wardrobe up with classic pieces that match. This way you will be able to interchange everything, so you won't have to buy as many new pieces.

43. Go to the factory or clearance shops; they're much cheaper and give you big brands at low prices and chances are, nobody will know where you bought them from!

44. Try to save your shopping trips until the sales are on. Although make sure you don't buy things just because they are cheap if you don't actually need them and take them back if they don't fit as many shops do not open their fitting rooms during busy sale times.

45. Go to your local charity shop for cheap clothes! Remember, the majority of celebrities shop in charity stores because that's where all the quirky stuff is so you will be in good company!

46. Don't splash out on designer clothes for your children. Hand-me-downs and supermarket clothing ranges are a great way to dress your children cheaply and they probably won't even notice the difference.

47. Learn how to sew and fix your clothes, not only will you be able to sew any holes or rips, you will also be able to customise your own clothes to make one off pieces.

48. Return clothes for a refund that you have bought and then realised you don't like, don't just let them sit in your wardrobe with the tags on.

49. Don't avoid the cheaper shops such as Primark, they are great to stock up on your simple wardrobe necessities such as t-shirts and nightwear.

UTILITIES

50. Only buy home appliances that have been certified as energy efficient, they may cost more to start with but you'll save more over time on running costs.

51. Replace your old light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs as they last longer and save you money.

52. Lower your heating thermostat. If there are rooms that you don't use in your home then turn off the radiator and close the door. If you live in a 2 storey house, you can turn the thermostat down even further upstairs because heat rises. By turning your heating thermostat down 10-20 you will be surprised at how much energy you will save per year.

53. Install more insulation in your attic, replace old curtain liners with new insulating curtain liners and seal any draughts. If you have a big enough budget, install double or even triple glazed windows, these are very efficient means of insulating your home, saving you money on heating costs. They also boost the value of a property significantly.

54. Turn off the lights if you aren't in the room and make sure everyone in your house does the same. There's no point in being charged for light that you don't use. Simple as that!

55. Don't leave electrical appliances on standby as they still consume electricity. Turn them off at the wall and you could save up to 10% off your electricity bills. According to reports, the UK government is bringing in legislation that will make it compulsory for all new appliances to not have a standby mode because of the huge waste this brings.

56. You can save a lot of money on your water bills very easily, always shower rather than bathing and spend as little time in the shower as possible.

57. If you have a big home with few occupants you could halve your annual water bill by installing a water meter.

58. Turn your washing machine down to 40. Unless your clothes are heavily soiled a wash on 30-40 will still bring them out sparkling clean!

59. Don't be lazy by sticking with your current utility company, shop around and make sure you are getting the best deal; you can use utility comparison sites to help you see which company will be best for you and use Internet Cashback to earn up to 37.50 pounds for switching utility companies.

TRAVEL

60. Book flights early and save money. While many of the budget airlines will fly to a regional airport, it may actually cost less to fly into an airport closer to a city center (if you are going on a city break) as you won't have to pay for a taxi to your accommodation.

61. Budget airlines such as Ryanair are now charging per bag checked into the hold in an effort to speed up their turn around times. If you can, pack what you need (minus scissors, liquids etc) into your hold baggage. This also means you don't have to wait round to pick up your baggage at arrivals.

62. Book hotels online rather than walking in unannounced and being hit with the typically higher walk-in rate.

63. Buy your car rental online rather than arranging for it when you arrive. Car rental is a competitive market and there are plenty of money-saving offers available.

64. If you are planning a journey by train or bus then book early, look for offers and do not travel in peak times. If you buy your ticket on the day of travelling it will be significantly more money than if you book in advance.

65. If you are on a long train or plane journey, buy your refreshments before you board as drinks and snacks are always over priced once you are travelling.

66. There are lots of websites which will send you free samples or money off coupons so find the best one and keep checking it for the samples you want to receive. Shampoo and body lotion samples are great to take on weekends away!

COMMUNICATIONS

67. If you don't use your landline phone often then change to a pay as you go mobile phone, it is silly paying for line rental if you don't use it.

68. If you don't use your internet broadband often then cancel it and make use of free wireless internet in most restaurants, cafes and bars. You simply take your laptop and connect to their wireless for free (although it might cost you a cup of coffee!). You can go to your library and use their computers for free and even have access to their printers and photocopiers for a small cost.

69. If you are on a monthly mobile phone contract, think about going pay as you go instead. You will have much more control over what you spend, and you'll be surprised at how many people will call you instead of you calling them!

70. Send an email instead of phoning or texting people. Most customer services departments will answer emails now if you have a problem with a service such as your utility bill which means you won't have to ring their premium rate customer services phone number. You can also send your family and friends emails instead of calling them and even send birthday cards by email to save on postage.

71. There are lots of websites which let you send text messages to mobile phones for free so you won't use up your credit texting while you can get online and use a messenger service such as MSN Live to talk to your family and friends over the internet for free.

72. Get a Freeview digital box and cancel your SKY or cable TV package. Freeview has lots of free channels and you can now watch the majority of TV programmes on the internet, so you won't be missing out on your favourite shows.

AROUND THE HOUSE

73. If you have a spare room, advertise for a lodger. There are lots of people who just want a room during the week while they are at work, so you would still get your privacy at weekends. If you live on your own a lodger can provide you with great company and will help pay towards your bills.

74. Don't be wasteful with products such as toothpaste, body lotion or foundation. When you can't get anymore out of the tube, cut it open and you will be able to use the bits you couldn't get to.

75. Re-use old ice-cream tubs or take away packaging, you can use them for freezing food or taking your packed lunch into work.

76. If you have a pet, don't go out buying expensive bedding from the pet shop, recycle the waste paper from your office or buy your own shredding machine at home and shred up your old newspapers.

77. Only fill the kettle with the amount of water you need, filling it up full wastes energy and takes longer to boil so you'll have to wait longer for your drink!

78. When you use your washing machine, make sure it's full every time, if you just have a few items to wash then hand wash them in the sink.

79. Instead of drying your clothes in the tumble dryer, hang them outside or in rainy weather hang them over a clotheshorse. This will also keep your clothes nicer for longer as tumble dryers tend to shrink your clothes!

80. Learn how to make your own cleaning products which are as effective as the products you buy in the shop and you can often use the ingredients you already have in your kitchen cupboards.

81. Grow your own fruit and vegetables in your garden or rent an allotment, especially if you give the vegetables to your pets. Seeds cost virtually nothing compared to the actual products themselves.

MOTORING

82. Downsizing your car could save you 100s of pounds each year in both fuel and road tax so if you are just making journeys to and from work you should seriously consider getting a smaller, more efficient car.

83. Don't renew your car insurance without shopping around first. Use a price comparison site and you could save £100s every year by changing to a cheaper provider.

For a price comparison service go to CompareTheMarket.com.

84. If you travel to work on your own, try and start a car pool with colleagues who live in your area, not only will this save in petrol costs, it will also keep your car miles low.

85. Don't jump in your car for all journeys, if you can, walk or cycle and you will save money and get fitter.

86. Start a school run with other parents in your area if you drive your children to school or consider walking them there instead if it is in a walking distance.

87. Don't drive too fast, the RAC claim most car engines run far more efficiently at 60-70 miles an hour, compared to 80 mph or over.

88. Check your tyre pressure regularly; if your tyres are under inflated by 20% then you'll use 10% more fuel.

89. Don't pay to get your car cleaned as it is a waste of money, set aside 30 minutes each week to wash it yourself.

MISC

90. Instead of buying a daily paper, read the news online. Most newspapers have regularly updated websites which have all the news stories for free which could save you approximately 15 pounds per month.

91. If you smoke, try to stop or cut down. The NHS has lots of free services to help you do this and it will save you £100s each year.

92. Monitor how much alcohol you drink. If you are having a few glasses everyday, try to cut back and only have it for special occasions.

93. Don't spend money you don't have on gambling sites, especially ones online. It is easy to lose track on how much money you are spending and more often than not, you will lose this money. Try premium bonds instead if you want to try your luck as this way you will not lose your money.

94. It may be cheaper for you to pay for your prescriptions in advance with a pre-payment certificate if you pay for more than five prescription items in four months or 14 items in 12 months.

95. Buy generic medicines when you can, a 16 pack of Anadin costs approximately 2.99 pounds however a Sainsbury branded pack will only cost approximately 33p.

96. Cut and colour your own hair, or get your friends to help you. There are lots of great DIY colour kits out there to give you a new look for under 5 pounds and a pair of clippers won't set you back much. Be careful though!

97. Pretend it's your birthday on a night out and you might get a free birthday cake or glass of Champaign.

98. Don't lose all of your loose pennies, save them up in a jar and at the end of the year you will be surprised at how much money you have collected.

99. Make saving money fun! Saving money doesn't have to make you miserable! You can still see your friends, buy yourself treats and go on holiday; you just have the added advantage of feeling proud of your finances instead of hiding away from them!

If You Love Someone Who Smokes,Get Them To Watch This Video

If You Love Someone Who Smokes,Get Them To Watch This Videothis video program was made by a media genius Tony Schwartz who had a very good friend, New York City policemen kEN McFeely, who died of lung cancer at 46 years old.

As McFeeley was dying he decided to work with Schwartz to make this program to help others quit smoking. To date, thousands have quit after hearing McFeeley's story and Schwartz has become known as "media central" for the anti-smoking effort.

If You Love Someone Who Smokes contains no medical details, no "techniques" and supports no specific drug solution. But for thousands of smokers, the video gives them the heart and the courage to quit-- for the last time. Once you or your love ones have seen it, you can never forget it.

How I Quit Smoking

How I Quit SmokingThis post-punk jug band not only remembers when country wasn't cool, but revels in the era when folks like Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry ruled the pop charts. Mastermind Kurt Wagner uses pop-country as a jumping-off point for the skewed, sardonic observations about life in these post-postmodern times, delivered in his wry, half-spoken baritone. Wagner's characters have a decidedly pulp fiction feel about them- -particularly the ones sketched in "The Man Who Loved Beer" and "The Scary Caroler"--and his bandmates provide suitably sepia-toned landscapes for said eccentrics to play out their stories. The seamless manner in which the players make offbeat instrumentation-- heavy on the trombone, lap steel, and banjo--sound so natural and kitsch-free is the icing on the cake, and a guarantee that you needn't be a hipster to appreciate Lambchop. --David Sprague

The Dangers Of Smoking Are Severe and Deadly. Your Life Depends On Quitting.

  • Smoking is the #1 preventable cause death in the world.

Medications to Help You Quit

When you quit smoking, you may feel strange at first. You may feel dull, tense, and not yourself. These are signs that your body is getting used to life without nicotine. It usually only lasts 1 or 2 weeks.
Many people just can't handle how they feel after they quit. They start smoking again to feel better. Maybe this has happened to you. Most people slip up in the first week after quitting. This is when feelings of withdrawal are strongest.
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has approved medicines to reduce withdrawal symptoms and the urge to smoke. These FDA-approved medicines can help with feelings of withdrawal:
  • Nicotine gum
  • Nicotine inhaler
  • Nicotine tablet
  • Nicotine nose spray
  • Nicotine skin patch
  • Bupropion pills
  • Varenicline pills
Using these medicines can double your chances of quitting for good. Ask your doctor for help. But remember: Medicine alone can't do all the work. It can help with cravings and withdrawal, but quitting will still be hard at times.

Medicines with nicotine

Nicotine cessation products—also called nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)—have a little bit of nicotine but not the hundreds of other harmful chemicals that are in cigarettes. NRT helps you handle the physical symptoms of quitting by giving you much less nicotine than a cigarette. This satisfies your nicotine craving and lessens your urge to smoke. You can buy some NRT medicines without a prescription from your doctor. These include a skin patch, gum, or lozenges with nicotine. Nicotine inhalers and nose sprays are available only by prescription. Also see Myths about NRT (PDF).

Medicines without nicotine

Some medicines that help withdrawal symptoms and nicotine cravings don’t have any nicotine. They help by reducing symptoms and smoking urges. A prescription is needed for these kinds of medicines. See your doctor to talk about your medication plan and to get a prescription.

NHS Quit Kit

As all the regular readers will know, i am a non smoker, (that still makes me feel good when i say that), a non smoker of only 15 weeks i know, but a non smoker all the same. So why would i, a non smoker, apply for the free NHS Quit Kit that is being advertised nationally (uk) to aid people in giving up smoking?......Why?......because i was curious to see what our NHS and Government were doing to aid those that need help.

For those that aren't aware of this and to any overseas reader that i may have reading this, our National Health Service is on a purge at the moment where smoking is concerned, and they are offering this free "Quit Kit" in order to aid you in quitting the cigarettes. A good thing??.....yes, of course it is, anything that is available to you when you want to give up is a good thing. Will it do what it is intended to do?, IE, help you make that first step and quit cigarettes?......no it wont !! Don't get me wrong, the idea was good, the fact that it is free is good, it is well advertised, national tv and papers, which is good, and the fact that there are people out there trying to help is good, but at the end of the day what you get in this kit is NOT going to help you in any shape or form to stop smoking (in my opinion that is). I smoked my whole adult life, for 26 years in total, i knew for months in advance that i was leading up to giving up. I didn't give up overnight, i did a bit of homework, prepared myself etc, well if i had of gotten this "Quit Kit", whilst in that period of being a smoker but knowing i was about to give up, i know that it would have been totally useless to me.

This are the 6 items that the kit contains:

  • A toothbrush
  • (with "smokefree" written on it)
  • A Web Address
  • where you can download "free stress-busters" for your mp3
  • A leaflet
  • asking you to write down, 1) Your triggers. 2) How you are going to beat them. 3)Set your sights
  • A Questionnaire
  • that will give you an idea how much willpower you have.
  • A Booklet with some FAQ's
  • .........4 FAQ'S to be precise
  • A health and wealth wheel
  • that will tell you how much you will save and how your health will improve over periods of time

The leaflet, questionnaire and booklet are not substantial and probably contain no more that about 200 words on each.....and a toothbrush????? whats that all about??

I would love to be able to get some statistics as to how successful this "Quit Kit" has been, because for me, speaking as a smoker who has just recently given up, its a total waste of time. Its appreciated that the NHS are trying, but i feel their efforts are wasted.

Have you received the NHS Quit Kit???
Has it helped you quit cigarettes?
